1. Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal.


Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI) is one of the most recent public universities in Portugal. Since 1986, it has built several learning and research facilities for almost all fields of knowledge, namely, engineering, sciences, social sciences, humanities and health sciences. UBI has now 11 research units accredited by the National Science

and Technology Foundation (FCT). UBI has also gained experience in the Knowledge Transfer, being a stakeholder of the Technological Park in Covilhã, which in past years has received a number of spinoffs founded on the research findings of graduate students and professors, contributing decisively for the diversification of the regional economy.

Smartwatt is an energy services company providing a wide range of solutions to maximize its costumer’s consumption and production of energy. At Smartwatt we focus at adding value to our customers through theidentification of potential energy savings and the development of encompassing projects with high organizational impact that lead to productivity improvements. We aim at being the drive of a new paradigm for energy production, trading and consumption, which contribute to a more sustainable living and social development.



3. Electricidade dos Açores, SA (EDA), Portugal.


The company Electricidade dos Açores was created in 1980, as a public company, with the objective to establish and explore the public service of production, transmission (TSO) and distribution (DSO) of electric energy in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. In the activity of production, EDA ensures the conduction and maintenance of the production equipment in every island, in order to grant the satisfaction of consumptions, with quality and with the least possible cost of supplied energy, always seeking also to preserve the environment. The company also coordinates the project and construction of new power plants and improvements to the existing facilities, as indicated by the company planning. In the activity of transmission and distribution, EDA, as the concessionary of transmission and distribution of electric energy in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.



4. Aristotelio Panepistimio Thessalonikis (AUTH), Greece.



Aristotelio Panepistimio Thessalonikis, or Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), was founded in 1925. Currently, AUTH is the largest university in Greece comprising 7 Faculties organized into 33 Schools, 5 faculties with only 1 school each, as well as 4 independent Schools (42 Schools in total). Some educational and administrative facilities are located off campus for practical and operational reasons. The Power Systems Lab (PSL) of AUTH is an active research group with interests covering a wide range of power systems technologies, while it is the only research unit in Greece that specializes in electricity markets issues. Its research interests are currently focused on the fields of electricity market design, risk management and bidding strategies for power producers and traders, transmission management, smart grids, electric load forecasting, applications of artificial intelligence to power systems, etc.



5. Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A. (HEDNO), Greece.


The HEDNO (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.Α.) tasks comprise the operation, maintenance and development of the electricity distribution network in Greece in order to ensure transparent and non-discriminatory access of all consumers and more generally of all users of the network. HEDNO’s aim is the substantial contribution to the development, prosperity and quality of life through reliable power distribution and through the provision of relevant services to all of our clients, exceeding their expectations with respect to people and to environment. HEDNO’s vision is to achieve standards of a model company in the field of Power Distribution, providing high quality services in this field and in related sectors building distribution infrastructure fully harmonized with the environment and ensuring full satisfaction of all stakeholders, i.e. customers, personnel, stock holders, associates and society as a whole.



6. Universidad de Castilla - La Mancha (UCLM), Spain.



The University of Castilla – La Mancha (UCLM) is a public University serving the Castilla – La Mancha region in central Spain. Four campuses provide access to higher education and research to circa 35.000 students. The research group on electric systems modeling from the University of Castilla – La Mancha has an extensive experience on renewable energy applied to electric energy operation, planning and scheduling problems, and in large-scale optimization theory and applications.



7. Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, S.A. (ITC), Spain.



ITC is a state-owned company that belongs to the Industry Council of the Canary Island Regional Government. Its R&D facilities are located in the southeast of Gran Canaria, next to the coast, occupying a 109.000 m2 plot on a site with excellent renewable energy conditions (annual mean wind speed 7.8 m/s, with wind energy potential of more than 4,000 equiv. hours/year; Solar irradiation on an horizontal Surface: 5.7 kWh/m2; day Sun Hours: 3,000 h/year). The staff of ITC is made up of 185 professionals from a wide range of disciplines, with 35 engineers and physicists working directly in renewable energy-based production systems for water desalination, cooling, heating and hydrogen production. ITC is currently involved in several projects related to RES integration in islands: Energy storage and its integration with renewable energy technologies (for both stationary and mobile applications), wind farm grid integration in islands for desalination support, scheduling tools for microgrids in islands, power electronics and storage management tools for supercapacitors integrated in microgrids and RES forecasting for grid operation in Canary Islands (project in developing with REE).



8. Concepto Sociológico (CS), Spain


Concepto Sociológico is a SME created in the year 2000 in Albacete, Spain. Its main field of activity is the experimental research in social sciences related with regional development. Market research, communication, statistical studies, surveys, strategic plans, which has made more than one hundred projects since its founding, oriented to regional and national market are the main tools of concrete activity. This work is developed mainly in three specific sectors: energy, regional development (local market, internationalisation, women, impact and assessment of actions, strategy, etc) and technology transfer and innovation. Since 2008 carried out the realization of Castilla-La Mancha energy regional statistics and the annual Castilla-La Mancha surveys of habits of energy consumption of the regional citizens.



9. Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), Italy.



Leading public research university founded 150 years ago dedicated to theoretical & applied research. 170,000 teaching hours per year; 26,000 students with 115 courses (39 Bachelor’s degrees; 35 Master of Sciences; 23 Doctorates and 18 specialisations). Research is organized within 11 departments. POLITO has a strong reputation in research and education on sustainable technologies and renewable energies. Two different Departments are involved in SINGULAR: the Energy Department and the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. The Energy Department has a leading role in the field of production, transport, distribution and use of electricity, with the aim of improving the existing technology and promoting the innovative technology in the field. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering promotes and develops fundamental and applied research, both theoretical and experimental, in a broad spectrum of scientific and technological domains. Activities range from the classical sectors of mechanics and aerospace - automotive, fixed and rotary wing aeronautics, railways, textile, food and agricultural machinery, industrial plants - to frontier research to space exploration applications, system engineering, innovative materials, micro and nanotechnologies, low environmental impact vehicles and aircrafts, biomedical engineering.



10. Wave for Energy S.r.L. (W4E), Italy.




W4E is a dynamic company fighting to create new opportunities for clean and sustainable energy supply from the most powerful and difficult to capture resource on the planet. Providing electricity from waves is one of the toughest challenges nowadays and it can only be faced with a multidisciplinary systemic approach. W4E was born upon several years of research and studies on mechanics and waves interactions. The company still grounds on R&D, because this is the only way to succeed in the high-tech market of renewable power from oceans and seas. The main efforts are towards optimizing the mechanical device and the interactions with the marine environment.



11. Comune di Pantelleria (PANTELLERIA), Italy.




The Pantelleria Municipality is organized into a number of independent departments, a) Administrative Services, b) Public Projects and Facilities, c) Aqueduct, d) Community, e) Development, f) Executive, g) Finance and taxes, h) Fire & Rescue, i) Public Transportation. In particular, the department that will be in charge of this project will be Public Projects & Facilities. The Department of Public Projects and Facilities manages the Town's Capital Improvement Program for roads, beach facilities, pathways, and beach renourishment and provides administrative leadership, supervision, support, and direction to the Facilities Management and Engineering Divisions. The Engineering Division for the Town provides general oversight and project management for design and construction of secondary road and drainage improvements; reviews and approves all plans for development to ensure compliance with the Stormwater Management Standards of the Land Management Ordinance;.  



12. Agenzia Nazionale per le Nuove Tecnologie, L'energia e lo Sviluppo Economico Sostenibile (ENEA), Italy.


ENEA is the Italian government agency responsible for the areas of new technology, energy and the sustainable economy. ENEA’s activities in the Environmental sector involve: Environmental surveying and monitoring; Climate modelling and analysis; Global change assessment; Research and assessment of the impact of productive activities on environment. The Agency has a staff of around 3000 and is present throughout Italy, operating with nine major research centres and a number of smaller facilities. ENEA has a special laboratory devoted to Climate Modelling and Impacts with a staff of 15 employees (UTMEA-CLIM). This laboratory combines long-standing expertise both in the area of oceanic and atmospheric modelling (regional and global) and impact evaluation in relevant sectors (energy, infrastructure, agriculture, ecosystems). Its major research fields are Mediterranean and African climate, regional hydrological cycle and related teleconnections, energy and environmental modelling, forecasting applications for renewable energy, electric grid, infrastructure maintenance and planning. UTMEACLIM is coordinating the EU-FP7 CLIMRUN project on climate services.

14. Universitatea Politehnica din Bucuresti (UPB), Romania.




Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti (UPB), a centenary institution, is the most important technical public University in Romania. UPB has participated in many European programs such as TEMPUS, SOCRATES (ERASMUS), LEONARDO, COPERNICUS, FP5, FP6, FP7 and in various initiatives to promote and encourage the student and professor mobilities. The UPB participants belong to the Power Engineering Faculty (PEF). PEF is equipped with research hardware resources, such as the gas-fired co-generation power plant, the High Voltage Laboratory modelling life-size overhead transmission lines of 110 to 750 kV and the Laboratory of Hydraulic Machines.



15. Societatea Comerciala de Distributie si Furnizare a Energiei Electrice - Electrica SA (ELECTRICA), Romania.




S.C Electrica S.A is a state-owned company, subordinated to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Development and held through OPSPI (Office of State Ownership and Privatization in Industry). Its object of activity consists in power distribution (DSO) and supply, providing communications infrastructure / information and energy services. In 31.12.2010, S.C. Electrica SA had a 25% market share of the electricity supply, providing the highest quality services to a total of 3,505,290 customers. The Company is a leader in terms of size of existing assets, since it has about 36% of electrical networks at various voltage levels 0.231-110 kV, followed by ENEL (29%), CEZ (18%) and EON (17%). Regarding the market served by Electrica SA, there are two essential dimensions: The geographical coverage, Electrica covers 18 counties in the country (42 counties). (approx. 36% of the country ~ 92.000kmp) and the number and diversity of consumers fed from the electrical network management, it serves about 42% of the number of consumers of the country (~ 8 million).
